You are invited to join the festivities and fun of the DuanWu Festival in the scenic and beautiful Saluda Shoals Park on June 9th, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  This event is sponsored and organized by Chines Association of Columbia (CAC) and funded in part by The Humanities Council South Carolina.

Also called Poet Festival, or Dragon Boat Race Festival, DuanWu is held to honor Qu Yuan (343-278 BC), a legendary poet and a loyal official of the Chu State during the Warring State Period.  He drowned himself in the Miluo River in protest of the corruption of the State of Chu on the fifth day of the fifth month in the year of 278 BC; hence, the DuanWu Festival observed in China and neighboring Asian countries for more than 2000 years.

Along with presentations and performances, there will be a Potluck picnic. Please bring your favorite dishes for your family and to share with friends.  You may pay $5 for lunch prepared by CAC volunteers.

We will have games such as tug of war, jumping rope, hula hoop, etc., Children can play on the park’s Splash Pad; you may also canoe on the scenic and serene Saluda Rivers (canoe rental available), or hiking in the tree-canopied picturesque trails in the park.
The event is open to the public.  Entrance fee, parking fees, fees for your children to play on the Slas Water Pad  are paid by the CAC.  When you come to the park, please mention that you are participating in the DuanWu Festival to gain free entrance to the park.  You may also ask for the wrist band for your children to play on the Splash Water Pad at the entrance.  Follow the signs to the Cattails Shelter.
